Bhubaneswar, July 31 (UDN): As part of the state’s ongoing flood management and monitoring efforts, the Department of Water Resources has intensified field inspections along vulnerable river embankments to assess the prevailing flood situation and ensure the safety of nearby habitations.
According to the department, the Nodal Officer and the Superintending Engineer of the Nimapara Irrigation Division conducted a field inspection of the right embankment of the Devi River near Bauriakan to assess the impact of the rising water level and evaluate the condition of the flood protection structures.
During the visit, the officials reviewed the status of the embankment, monitored river conditions and assessed the preparedness of field personnel to deal with any eventuality. They also directed engineers and staff to maintain round-the-clock vigil over vulnerable stretches and take immediate preventive measures wherever necessary to safeguard the embankment.
The inspection forms part of the state’s continuous surveillance of river systems during the monsoon season. Officials said regular monitoring is being carried out across flood-prone areas to identify potential risks at an early stage and ensure prompt intervention wherever required.
The Department of Water Resources reiterated its commitment to strengthening flood preparedness through continuous field assessments, close coordination among concerned agencies and timely execution of protective measures to minimise the impact of floods on lives and property.
