Bhubaneswar, April 5 – In a significant development for Odisha’s infrastructure, the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved two major railway projects for the state. These projects, with a combined cost of Rs 5,104 crore, aim to improve the state’s railway network and connectivity.
The approved projects include the construction of the third and fourth railway lines between Sambalpur and Jarapda and Jharsuguda and Sason. The Sambalpur (Sason)–Jharsuguda corridor, which will stretch over 87 km, is valued at Rs 1,187 crore. Meanwhile, the Jarapada–Sambalpur project, covering 277 km, will cost Rs 3,917 crore.
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, in a statement on his official social media account, expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Modi and Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw for their support in approving these vital projects. He emphasized that these new rail lines would significantly enhance connectivity across Odisha and play a key role in the state’s vision of becoming a “Viksit Odisha” (Developed Odisha).
These projects are expected to boost economic growth by improving transportation efficiency, connecting key regions of the state, and fostering the overall development of Odisha’s infrastructure.
