Brazil, April 7: The Indian boxing team delivered a remarkable performance in their first-ever appearance at the Elite level World Boxing Cup Brazil 2025, clinching a total of six medals, including one gold and one silver.
Hitesh made history by becoming the first Indian boxer to win a gold medal at the World Boxing Cup. His opponent, Odel Kamara of England, was forced to withdraw from the 70kg final due to injury, awarding Hitesh the victory.
Abhinash Jamwal also reached the final in the 65kg category but narrowly lost to the local favorite Yuri Reis, securing a well-deserved silver medal.
Additionally, four Indian boxers earned bronze medals: Jadumani Singh Mandengbam (50kg), Manish Rathore (55kg), Sachin (60kg), and Vishal (90kg), highlighting the growing strength of Indian boxing.
Reflecting on his victory, Hitesh praised the 10-day training camp in Brazil, which he credited for helping him refine his tactics. “The camp allowed me to pick up key strategies that played a major role in my success. This tournament has provided invaluable exposure, and I’m proud to bring home the gold,” he said.
India sent a 10-member team to the World Boxing Cup, marking their first major international competition since the Paris Olympics. With six medals in hand, the team’s success will serve as a huge morale boost as they begin preparations for the 2028 Olympic cycle.
