Bhubaneswar, June 12: A sudden diarrhoea outbreak in Odisha’s Jajpur district has claimed six lives and left over 500 people hospitalised, prompting a large-scale emergency response.
The outbreak, suspected to be caused by food poisoning during a local feast, began in Dharmasala and has spread to Danagadi, Korei, Vyasanagar, and nearby areas.
Health officials have deployed multiple medical teams, stocked hospitals with essential supplies, and shifted critical patients to SCB Medical College and other major facilities. Two state health teams are on the ground, along with RWSS staff disinfecting water sources.
Public Health Director Dr. Nilakantha Mishra said the situation is under control, with awareness campaigns and medicine distribution underway. Investigations are ongoing to confirm the cause of deaths.
