Odisha Expands Power Transmission Network to Support Green Energy and Industrial Growth

1st August 2025: Odisha is making significant strides in strengthening its electricity transmission infrastructure to support the state’s growing energy demands and green energy ambitions. The state’s power transmission utility, OPTCL (Odisha Power Transmission Corporation Limited), is set to implement a major expansion and upgrade plan, backed by a substantial investment under the Green Energy Corridor (GEC) Phase III.

Currently, Odisha boasts a robust and reliable transmission network with 51 high-capacity transmission lines and 198 Extra High Voltage (EHV) grid substations, maintaining an impressive 99% system availability. Building on this strong foundation, OPTCL is now planning to establish 34 new grid stations and upgrade 30 existing ones, in a move that will significantly boost the capacity and resilience of the state’s power grid.

This initiative is being supported by a ₹7,532 crore investment under GEC Phase III, a central government program aimed at facilitating the seamless integration of renewable energy sources into the national grid. In Odisha, this funding will directly support the state’s shift toward cleaner and more sustainable energy, particularly in areas such as:

  • Electric mobility (EV infrastructure),
  • Wind and hydro power integration, and
  • Energy-intensive industrial sectors like aluminium production.

Powering a Sustainable Future

As demand grows for sustainable electricity—both for domestic use and industrial development—Odisha’s forward-looking transmission upgrades are set to ensure that power supply remains stable, efficient, and green. By expanding the network and enabling the smooth flow of renewable power, the state is also laying the groundwork for future investments in clean energy and heavy industries.

This transformation underlines the state government’s broader vision of energy security, industrial competitiveness, and environmental responsibility.

With the Green Energy Corridor Phase III as a critical enabler, Odisha is not just powering homes and industries—it’s powering a future that’s cleaner, smarter, and more connected.
