Bhubaneswar, 28th Aug 2025: In line with the National Education Policy 2020, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has emphasized strengthening primary education in the state. He said that primary education plays a crucial role in achieving the goal of building a prosperous Odisha by 2036. Therefore, he directed officials to focus more on providing quality education.
During a review meeting of the School & Mass Education Department at Lok Seva Bhavan, the Chief Minister gave several new directives and decisions:
Regularization of contractual primary teachers will be undertaken by December 2025.
To meet the requirements under the new education policy, around 40,000 new teacher posts will be created.
Currently, Odisha has 45,292 primary schools with 1,60,319 teacher posts. An additional 39,366 posts will be created under the new policy.
Along with 5,067 vacant posts, a total of 44,433 posts will be filled within the next three years, with about 15,000 recruitments per year.
Further key decisions:
The Board of Secondary Education (BSE) and the Council of Higher Secondary Education (CHSE) will be merged into a single education board to strengthen and upgrade the school education system.
Until now, free textbooks have been provided to students only from Class I to VIII, and in Classes IX & X only SC/ST students received them. From now on, all students of Classes IX and X will receive free textbooks.
The Chief Minister stressed that these measures are necessary to improve access to education and ensure quality learning for every child in Odisha.
