Odisha Government to Invest INR 1,535 Crore for Tribal Education and Cultural Development

16th November 2024: The Odisha government has announced an investment of ₹1,535 crore to enhance the education and cultural development of tribal children. The initiative aims to promote the holistic development of tribal communities, with a particular focus on improving education and cultural preservation. Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi inaugurated this project during the celebration of Birsa Munda Jayanti and Tribal Pride Day. As part of this initiative, 16 Ashram schools will be upgraded to high schools, and 13 middle schools will be transformed into higher secondary schools. Additionally, ₹852 crore will be spent on constructing hostels for primary schools, improving access to quality education for tribal students.

Chief Minister Majhi also praised the efforts of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in honoring the legacy of Birsa Munda. He highlighted the launch of the “Dharti Aba Janjatiya Gram Utkarsha Yojana” in Jamui, Bihar, which includes various welfare projects for tribal communities. In Odisha, 7,667 villages across 27 districts will be included in this ambitious campaign, and the state government is actively working towards ensuring its successful implementation.

This initiative is a significant step towards improving the quality of life and educational standards for Odisha’s tribal population, while also honoring their rich cultural heritage.
