19th November 2024: India’s GSAT-20, a heavy communication satellite weighing 4,700 kg, is scheduled for launch today (November 19, 2024) from Cape Canaveral, USA. The satellite, developed by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), will provide critical communication services, including high-speed internet connectivity to underserved and remote regions across India.

Due to its substantial weight, GSAT-20 is being launched by SpaceX using its Falcon Heavy rocket, as it exceeds the capacity of India’s own LVM-3 (Bahubali) launch vehicle. This launch marks a significant achievement in India’s space ambitions, expanding its satellite capabilities and reinforcing its role in global space exploration.

The GSAT-20 satellite is expected to improve telecommunications, broadcasting, and internet services across the country, further enhancing digital connectivity in rural and remote areas. This milestone is a major step forward in India’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its space infrastructure.
