Leadership Change at Gangadhar Meher University as Byomkesh Tripathy Takes Charge as VC

Sambalpur:April. 27:   Eminent historian and archaeologist Byomkesh Tripathy has assumed charge as the new Vice-Chancellor of Gangadhar Meher University. He formally took over this responsibility on April 20.
End of a Long Wait
The position of regular Vice-Chancellor had been vacant since March 9, 2025. During this period, Professor Sushanta Kumar Das from the Physics department had been efficiently managing responsibilities as the acting Vice-Chancellor.
Formal Welcome and Proceedings
On the occasion of assuming office, Registrar Sanat Kumar Nayak, heads of departments, faculty members, and staff were present. Professor Tripathy first paid floral tribute to the statue of renowned poet Gangadhar Meher on the campus. Chairman of the Postgraduate Council, Professor Gyanaranjan Swain, briefed him about the university’s administrative system.
Vision and Future Plans
After taking charge, he visited the campus and reviewed preparations for the ongoing final semester examinations. Promoting environmental awareness, he also planted a sapling in the university’s botanical garden. In his first address, he emphasized improving the quality of education, advancing research activities, strengthening alumni relations, and connecting the university more closely with civil society.
Profile of Professor Tripathy
Professor Tripathy previously served as Vice-Chancellor of Utkal University of Culture and as acting Vice-Chancellor of Indira Gandhi National Tribal University. His research on medieval Indian history has received wide recognition at the international level.
