Three Dead, Three Critical After EV Crash in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar, June 16: A serious road accident involving an electric vehicle near New Government Colony, close to Sainik School, has claimed three lives and left three others critically injured, according to official updates from hospital and police authorities.

The incident occurred when a compact EV reportedly lost control while moving from Press Chhak towards MCL Office Road. The vehicle first collided with a parked auto-rickshaw and multiple motorcycles before hitting a group of people gathered near a roadside tea stall.

Emergency responders and local residents rushed to the scene and assisted in rescuing the injured. All six victims were initially taken to nearby medical facilities before being referred to Capital Hospital and later to AIIMS Bhubaneswar for advanced treatment. Despite medical intervention, one more injured person succumbed during treatment, raising the death toll to three. The condition of the remaining three injured persons remains critical.

Preliminary reports suggest that the vehicle may have been travelling at high speed at the time of the accident. Eyewitnesses claimed the EV appeared to have lost control moments before the crash, though the exact cause is yet to be officially confirmed.

The driver, identified as Anil Gowda of Ganjam district, allegedly fled the scene following the incident but later surrendered to police. Authorities have registered a case and initiated a detailed investigation to determine the circumstances leading to the crash.

Officials have stated that further action will be taken based on the findings of the inquiry. The incident has raised concerns among local residents regarding road safety in the area.

Authorities continue to monitor the condition of the injured and have assured that appropriate medical care is being provided.
