Bhubaneswar, June 17: In a significant initiative aimed at strengthening the delivery of welfare services and promoting digital governance at the grassroots level, smartphones were distributed to Anganwadi workers during a special program organized at the Rushikulya Conference Hall. The event was attended by the Honorable Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) from Chhatrapur and Sorada, along with senior district officials, including the District Collector and the Chief Development Officer (CDO) of the Zilla Parishad.
During the program, the District Collector and the Chief Development Officer ceremonially handed over smartphones to the Anganwadi workers. The initiative is expected to bring a transformative change in the functioning of Anganwadi centers by enabling workers to use digital technology for maintaining records, monitoring beneficiaries, and delivering services more efficiently.
The distribution of smartphones forms part of the government’s broader effort to modernize the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) system and enhance transparency, accountability, and effectiveness in service delivery. With the help of these digital devices, Anganwadi workers will be able to collect and upload real-time data related to maternal and child health, nutrition, immunization, preschool education, and various welfare schemes directly to government portals and mobile applications.
Speaking on the occasion, the dignitaries emphasized the crucial role played by Anganwadi workers in ensuring the well-being of women and children in rural and urban communities. They highlighted that equipping frontline workers with smartphones would reduce paperwork, improve communication with government departments, facilitate faster reporting, and enable timely monitoring of developmental indicators.
The newly distributed smartphones will allow Anganwadi workers to access digital platforms, receive official instructions instantly, participate in online training programs, and maintain accurate records of beneficiaries.
