Administration, Officials, and Stakeholders Join Hands at District-Level Workshop in Jharsuguda to Accelerate the Fight Against Child Labour

Jharsuguda:July 3 {UDN}:  A district-level consultation meeting and workshop on the elimination of child labour was organized at the DMF Auditorium in the Collectorate under the joint initiative of the Odisha State Commission for Protection of Child Rights and the Jharsuguda District Administration. The workshop brought together government officials, law enforcement agencies, NGOs, media representatives, and stakeholders to strengthen coordinated efforts for child protection and the eradication of child labour.

The programme was attended by Commission Chairperson Babita Patra, MLA Tankadhar Tripathy, Commission Member Chandana Das, Collector Kunal Motiram Chhanan, senior district officials, labour department representatives, and other dignitaries. Speakers emphasized the need for stronger awareness campaigns, inter-departmental coordination, and community participation to ensure that every child enjoys the right to education, safety, and a childhood free from exploitation.

Addressing the gathering, Babita Patra stressed that children should hold books and pens instead of work tools, calling for a collective mission to build a child labour-free Jharsuguda. She also highlighted the need to protect children of migrant workers, reduce school dropouts, eliminate child begging, and promote livelihood opportunities for vulnerable families through skill development and women’s empowerment. The workshop concluded with a renewed commitment from all stakeholders to work together toward creating child labour-free villages, panchayats, wards, and preventing child marriage across the district.
