Government Plans to Combine Housing and Solar Energy Schemes for Sustainable and Energy-Efficient Living.

Bhubaneswar, July 13 [UDN}:: The Odisha Government has prepared a major plan to expand the implementation of the PM Surya Ghar Scheme in the state. The government has decided to integrate the scheme with the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY).

This means that wherever houses are constructed under PM Awas Yojana, electricity supply through solar energy under the PM Surya Ghar Scheme will also be provided. Not only PMAY, but the government plans to include this facility in all housing schemes meant for poor and economically weaker sections of society.

However, participation in the PM Surya Ghar Scheme will remain optional for beneficiaries. Deputy Chief Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo made this announcement today.

Under the scheme, for the installation of a 1-kilowatt rooftop solar power panel in urban areas, beneficiaries are provided a subsidy of ₹30,000 from the Central Government and an additional ₹25,000 from the State Government.
