Bhubaneswar, July 17 [UDN}: To further strengthen Odisha’s agriculture and rural economy, the State Government is placing significant emphasis on the development of fisheries and livestock entrepreneurship, as well as on promoting commercial agriculture projects across the state. Under the “Mukhyamantri Krushi Udyog Yojana (MKUY)”, the subsidy period available to beneficiaries has been extended by another five years. For this purpose, the State Cabinet has approved an expenditure estimate of ₹2,496.40 crore.
Under this scheme, financial assistance is being provided to entrepreneurs to start new ventures in the fisheries and animal husbandry sectors. Over the next five years, the government aims to establish around 8,500 commercial agriculture projects across all 30 districts of Odisha.
The initiative is expected to nurture the younger generation as agricultural entrepreneurs while creating sustainable employment opportunities in rural areas. It will also play a major role in increasing the income of farmers and strengthening the overall rural economy of the state.
