Kumar Mangalam Birla Calls on Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi; Aditya Birla Group Unveils Fresh Rs 12,000 Crore Investment Plan for Odisha

Bhubaneswar,July 20 [UDN}:The Aditya Birla Group has expressed its interest in making additional investments in Odisha. The group has proposed an additional investment of ₹12,000 crore to expand the capacity of the proposed alumina refinery at Kansariguda in Kashipur tehsil of Rayagada district.

With this fresh investment, the total value of the project will reach ₹20,000 crore. The proposal was discussed during a meeting between Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and Aditya Birla Group Chairman Kumar Mangalam Birla. The high-level meeting also reviewed the progress of the group’s ongoing industrial projects in Odisha and explored future investment opportunities.
The Aditya Birla Group presented its expansion plan for the Kansariguda project, which is being developed by Hindalco Industries. In the first phase, the integrated alumina refinery is being established with an annual production capacity of 1 million tonnes at an investment of ₹8,000 crore.
Under the new proposal, the company plans to invest an additional ₹12,000 crore to increase the refinery’s capacity by 2 million tonnes per annum, taking its total annual production capacity to 3 million tonnes.
During the meeting, Chief Minister Majhi stated that the Odisha Government’s priority is to ensure greater value addition to the state’s mineral resources, promote advanced manufacturing, and generate quality employment. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to developing a complete aluminium value chain and transforming Odisha into the country’s leading hub for metals and metallurgy.
The Chief Minister assured the company of full government support, including land allocation, infrastructure development, necessary facilities, and speedy statutory approvals to ensure timely implementation of the project.
The meeting also reviewed the Aditya Birla Group’s existing investments in aluminium, chemicals, cement, renewable energy, textiles, and apparel sectors. Discussions were also held on potential investments in copper refining, copper-clad laminates, printed circuit boards (PCBs), technical textiles, paints, jewellery manufacturing, and advanced aluminium products.
The expansion of the Kansariguda alumina refinery is expected to create a large number of direct and indirect employment opportunities while boosting downstream industries and opening new business prospects for local entrepreneurs across the state.
Additional Line: The proposed expansion is expected to strengthen Odisha’s position as a major aluminium manufacturing hub and significantly contribute to the state’s industrial and economic growth.
