New Low-Pressure System Set to Intensify Monsoon Activity, Bringing Widespread Heavy to Extremely Heavy Rainfall Across Odisha from August 13–16

Bhubaneswar,  Aug 7 [UDN}:A fresh low-pressure area is expected to develop over the Bay of Bengal, raising concerns of another significant spell of rainfall across Odisha. According to weather forecasts, this new weather system is likely to intensify and bring widespread rain to several parts of the state. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has indicated that the impact of the system could become more pronounced between August 13 and August 16, with the possibility of very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall in many districts.

Meteorologists have warned that the developing low-pressure system may strengthen as it moves closer to the Odisha coast, resulting in intense showers, thunderstorms, gusty winds, and prolonged rainfall. Low-lying areas may experience waterlogging, while rivers and reservoirs could witness a rise in water levels if the rainfall remains persistent.

District administrations have been advised to remain on alert and closely monitor the evolving weather situation. Authorities are expected to take precautionary measures in flood-prone areas, while residents have been urged to stay updated with official weather advisories and avoid unnecessary travel during periods of intense rainfall.

If the forecast materializes, the upcoming spell could become one of the most significant rain events of the month, with August 13 to 16 likely to witness extremely heavy rainfall, potentially affecting normal life, transportation, agriculture, and infrastructure across several parts of Odisha.
