Bhubaneswar, Aug 7 [UDN}: A Cabinet meeting was held at Lok Seva Bhawan on Saturday under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi. The meeting approved 11 proposals from six departments. Among them, five proposals were from the Water Resources Department, two from the Housing and Urban Development Department, and one each from the Law, ST & SC Development, Agriculture, and Finance Departments.
The state Cabinet approved four major projects under the Water Resources Department with a total estimated cost of ₹686.33 crore.
Anandapur Barrage Project on Baitarani River
The Cabinet approved the construction of the Anandapur Barrage and its distribution system on the Baitarani River. The project aims to provide irrigation facilities to around 60,000 hectares of agricultural land in Keonjhar and Balasore districts.
The project includes construction of the barrage, strengthening of the Salandi river system, development of open canal systems, and command area development works. Due to delays in land acquisition, the remaining irrigation distribution system covering 57,000 hectares will now be implemented through underground pipeline networks in nine packages.
Under one of these packages, an underground pipeline distribution system will be constructed between 40.927 km and 45.570 km of the Salandi Left Main Canal. It will provide irrigation facilities to 7,171.77 hectares of farmland along with operation and maintenance services for five years.
For this work, the Cabinet approved a tender of ₹145.70 crore for construction and ₹7.30 crore for five years of operation and maintenance. The project is targeted to be completed within 24 months.
Another underground pipeline distribution system will be constructed between 60.304 km and 71.505 km of the Salandi Main Canal, benefiting 5,052.68 hectares of agricultural land. The Cabinet approved ₹125.51 crore for construction and ₹5.63 crore for five years of maintenance.
Parbati Giri Mega Lift Irrigation Scheme
The state government had earlier launched the Parbati Giri Mega Lift Irrigation Scheme with an estimated expenditure of ₹10,759.20 crore to provide irrigation facilities to 2,63,801 hectares of land through rivers, reservoirs, and six lift irrigation canals.
Under this scheme, five lift irrigation projects will be constructed. These projects will draw water from the Mahanadi River in Khordha district and Daya River in Puri district to expand irrigation coverage.
Cabinet Approves ‘Chief Minister Tribal Livelihood Mission 2.0’

The Odisha Cabinet has taken an important decision to accelerate the social and economic development of tribal communities, especially Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs).
The Cabinet approved the implementation of the state government’s flagship scheme — Chief Minister Tribal Livelihood Mission 2.0 (CMTLM 2.0).
The first phase of the mission covered 1.5 lakh families across 13 districts. Based on its success, the second phase has now been launched.
Key Highlights:
₹2,995 crore will be spent over five years.
Each beneficiary family will receive ₹30,000 financial assistance.
Around 8 lakh tribal families will benefit.
Child Care Centres will be established in PVTG areas.
The scheme will be implemented for five years from 2026-27 to 2030-31 entirely through the state government’s own funds.
It will cover 19 districts, 23 Integrated Tribal Development Agencies (ITDAs), 20 Micro Project Areas (MPAs), and 134 tribal development zones.
