Odisha Cabinet Clears 11 Important Proposals, Paving the Way for New Development Projects and Citizen-Centric Reforms Across the State

Bhubaneswar: Aug 7 [UDN}:The Odisha State Cabinet has approved 11 important proposals from six departments, including a major housing initiative aimed at providing permanent houses to all eligible urban families by 2029. The meeting was chaired by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Saturday.
The Cabinet approved the launch of a new supplementary scheme named “Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) Bandhu” to accelerate the implementation of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana in urban areas. A budget provision of ₹1,615 crore has been made for the scheme.
According to Chief Secretary Anu Garg, the scheme will be implemented across 115 existing urban local bodies and 28 newly declared urban areas of Odisha. As per the Odisha Vision Document, the government aims to increase urban pucca house coverage from 59% in 2024 to 90% by 2029.
Under the scheme, around 3 to 3.5 lakh additional urban families will receive housing assistance between 2025 and 2030.
The scheme will have four major components:
Affordable housing, affordable rental housing and transit housing projects: ₹675 crore
Labour compensation and incentives for beneficiaries: ₹685 crore
Housing loans and interest subsidy: ₹100 crore
Housing support for displaced beneficiaries: ₹125 crore
The Cabinet also approved Chief Minister Tribal Livelihood Mission 2.0, which aims to benefit around 8 lakh Scheduled Tribe beneficiaries. The programme will be implemented from 2026-27 to 2030-31 across 134 blocks in 19 districts through 23 Integrated Tribal Development Agencies and 20 Micro Projects.
Under this mission, each tribal family will receive livelihood assistance of ₹30,000.
Meanwhile, five proposals of the Water Resources Department were approved, with a total allocation of more than ₹673.36 crore for new projects, construction and maintenance works.
The Cabinet also gave approval for the establishment of an Economic Area Development Authority to promote planned development and economic growth.
Overall, the Odisha Cabinet approved 11 proposals from six departments aimed at strengthening housing, tribal livelihood, water resources and economic development in the state.
