Birth and Death Registration Made Easy: Complete Guidelines on Registration Process, Documents, Authorities and Key Rules

Bhubaneswar,  Aug 8 [UDN}:Registration within 21 days of birth or death is considered the normal and standard procedure. No special permission is required during this period.
For registration after 21 days but within one year, a late fee (delayed registration charge) has to be paid as per the rules.
If the delay is between 1 year and 2 years, approval from the District Magistrate (DM) or Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) is required before registration.
After verification and approval by the authorized Executive Magistrate, the birth or death details are entered into the digital registration system and the certificate is issued.
For delays exceeding 2 years, permission from a First Class Judicial Magistrate (JMFC – Judicial Magistrate First Class) becomes mandatory.
Only after receiving the JMFC’s order, the birth or death certificate can be prepared and issued legally.
