Environment Committee Reviews Sustainability Initiatives and Environmental Measures at Jharsuguda Airport During Special Meeting

Jharsuguda: Aug 10 [UDN}:A meeting of the Jharsuguda Airport Environment Committee was held under the chairmanship of District Collector Kunal Motiram Chavan. The meeting reviewed various measures related to aviation safety, bird and wildlife management, prevention of bird strikes, and preparedness to tackle wildfire risks during the summer season.
During the meeting, officials informed that modern acoustic devices are being used at the airport for bird and wildlife management to strengthen flight safety and reduce the risk of bird strikes. These devices generate different types of sounds to safely keep birds and wild animals away from the aircraft movement area, thereby ensuring greater safety for aircraft and passengers.
According to airport authorities, the use of this technology will significantly reduce the chances of bird collisions and further strengthen aviation security arrangements. The system was also described as an environment-friendly and effective measure as it keeps wildlife away from the runway area without causing any harm to them.
The meeting also discussed the possible threat of wildfires caused by dry grass during the summer season and the risks they may pose to important airport installations. Vulnerable areas within the airport premises were identified, including the fuelling station, radar area near Malimunda, and the approach and take-off zones on both sides of the runway.
To prevent fire incidents, officials emphasized regular removal of dry grass, strict monitoring of sensitive areas, maintaining emergency firefighting systems in readiness, and creating awareness among all concerned employees.
District Collector Shri Chavan stressed the need for coordinated action among all concerned departments to effectively prevent risks like bird strikes and wildfires and ensure safe and uninterrupted aviation services at Jharsuguda Airport.
