Bhubaneswar, Aug 19 [UDN}:The second merit list for postgraduate (PG) admissions in Odisha has been released, paving the way for another round of admission for students who were not selected in the first phase or could not secure a seat earlier. The development comes after a significant number of students selected through the first merit list failed to complete the admission process within the stipulated period.
According to the latest admission data, nearly 60% of the students who were selected in the first round did not take admission despite being allotted seats. The low admission rate has resulted in a substantial number of vacant seats across various postgraduate courses and institutions, prompting the authorities to publish the second merit list.
The release of the second merit list is expected to provide another opportunity to eligible candidates seeking admission to PG programmes. Students whose names appear in the newly published list will have to complete the required admission formalities within the specified deadline. They will also need to comply with the respective college or university guidelines regarding document verification, fee payment and other admission procedures.
The authorities have advised students to carefully check the second merit list and verify their selection status. Candidates who have been allotted seats are expected to complete the admission process within the prescribed schedule so that their seats are not forfeited.
The fact that around 60% of first-round selected candidates did not take admission has also raised questions about the reasons behind the large number of vacant PG seats. Students may have opted for other courses or institutions, while some may have chosen not to pursue postgraduate studies at this stage.
With the publication of the second merit list, admission authorities are hopeful that more vacant seats will now be filled. Candidates awaiting admission are advised to remain alert regarding the deadlines and regularly check the official admission portal and notifications issued by the concerned authorities.
The second-round admission process will therefore be important for both students and institutions, as it is expected to help fill the remaining seats and ensure that eligible candidates get another opportunity to pursue their preferred postgraduate courses.
