National Sports Day Inaugurated at District Level in Nabarangpur as Officials and Sportspersons Highlight the Importance of Fitness and Sporting Excellence

Nabarangpur: Aug 31 [UDN}:The district-level National Sports Day celebrations were inaugurated at the indoor hall of the Nabarangpur Stadium. District Planning Board Chairman and MLA Gouri Shankar Majhi and District Collector Dr. Maheshwar Swain attended the event as chief guests and formally inaugurated the programme by lighting the ceremonial lamp and offering floral tributes to hockey legend Major Dhyan Chand.

Project Director Biranchi Narayan Darwan, District Sports Association Vice-President M. Bala Krishna Rao, Joint Secretary Manoj Kumar Patnaik, Cricket Secretary Ashok Nayak and other dignitaries were also present and paid tribute to the legendary hockey player.

Addressing the students, Planning Board Chairman Gouri Shankar Majhi said that along with studies, participation in sports and yoga is essential for maintaining both physical and mental health. He added that regular involvement in sports can also increase students’ interest and concentration in their studies.

On the occasion, all students and guests took a pledge under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan (Drug-Free India Campaign).

In-charge District Sports Officer Shubhan Sritam Panda delivered the vote of thanks. Sports teacher Bibhasis De conducted the programme, while sports teacher Ajit Parija and Niranjan Nayak of the Sports Department extended their cooperation.

For the first time, a three-day programme is being organised as part of National Sports Day celebrations. On the second day, various sports-related competitions will be held at the school level. On the concluding day, a cycle rally will begin from Sadashiva Tripathy Park and culminate at the Raja Chaitanya Dev Nodal School playground.

At the concluding ceremony, dignitaries will pay tribute to hockey wizard Major Dhyan Chand, while students who excel in the competitions held on the second day will be felicitated and awarded.
