Baleswar, Sept. 18 (UDN): A 12-year-old girl drowned in a pond while taking a bath in the Soro area of Baleshwar district on Friday morning.
The deceased was identified as Sanjita Das, a resident of Bagada village under Manatri panchayat within the jurisdiction of Soro police station.
Sanjita was a Class VI student of Manatri English Medium School. According to reports, she had attended her morning tuition classes and returned home before going to a nearby pond to bathe ahead of school.
When she did not return home for a long time, her family members became concerned and alerted the Soro Fire Services.
Fire Personnel Recover Body
A team of fire personnel reached the spot and launched a search operation in the pond. After a search, they recovered Sanjita and rushed her to the Soro Community Health Centre.
However, doctors at the health facility declared her dead on arrival.
Following the incident, Soro police reached the hospital and took custody of the body. A case has been registered, and an investigation is underway to ascertain the circumstances leading to the drowning.
The incident has left the girl’s family and local residents in shock.
