New Chapter for Women in CoBRA as IPS Officer Sanyukta Parashar Assumes Charge as Inspector General

Bhubaneswar,  Sept 19 [UDN}:A new chapter in the presence and leadership of women in India’s security forces has begun with senior IPS officer Sanyukta Parashar taking charge as the Inspector General (IG) of the CoBRA unit.

Her appointment marks a significant development in the leadership structure of the Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA), a specialised force trained to undertake challenging counter-insurgency and anti-Naxal operations in difficult and demanding terrains.

Known for her experience in handling security-related responsibilities, Sanyukta Parashar’s elevation to the rank of Inspector General is being seen as an important milestone for women officers in the country’s paramilitary and internal security establishment. Her new responsibility places her at the helm of a highly specialised operational unit whose personnel are trained to conduct missions in forested, remote and conflict-affected areas.

The CoBRA force operates under the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and has played an important role in counter-insurgency operations, particularly in areas affected by Left-Wing Extremism. Its personnel undergo specialised training in jungle warfare, tactical operations, survival skills and other operational techniques required for difficult field conditions.

With Sanyukta Parashar assuming the responsibility of IG, the development also highlights the growing role of women officers in senior positions within India’s security and law-enforcement institutions.
