Jeypore,Sept 21 [UDN}:: With the Panchayat and Municipal elections approaching in Odisha, the appointment of three women officers to three important administrative and police positions in Jeypore has drawn public attention.
The three key posts are Jeypore Sub-Collector, Koraput Vigilance Division Superintendent of Police (SP), and Jeypore Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO). All three positions are currently held by women officers belonging to the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) and Indian Police Service (IPS).
According to reports, 2022-batch IPS officer Archita Mittal assumed charge as the Jeypore SDPO in March 2026. Her appointment has placed a young IPS officer at the helm of policing at the sub-divisional level in Jeypore.
Similarly, a senior 2018-batch IPS officer joined Jeypore in May 2026 as the SP of the Koraput Vigilance Division. Her posting has brought an experienced police officer to head the Vigilance Division headquartered at Jeypore.
The third key appointment is that of 2024-batch IAS officer Subhra Panda, who has taken charge as the Jeypore Sub-Collector. Her appointment adds another woman officer to a prominent administrative position in the sub-division.
The simultaneous presence of three women officers in these important positions has become a subject of discussion among residents and intellectual circles in Jeypore. While it may be difficult at this stage to assess the precise administrative thinking behind these appointments, the development is being viewed by many as a matter of pride for Jeypore and its residents.
The three officers will have significant responsibilities in their respective fields, including administration, law and order, and vigilance-related matters. Their roles are particularly important as the state moves towards the Panchayat and Municipal elections.
There is also a growing expectation among the public that the administration and police machinery will ensure transparent governance, effective delivery of public services, prevention of corruption and maintenance of peace and security across Jeypore and the wider sub-division.
Senior citizens and intellectuals have reportedly emphasised the need for greater public awareness during this period. They believe that citizens should remain informed about government services, administrative procedures, vigilance mechanisms and their rights so that the presence of senior officers in key positions can contribute to more responsive and accountable governance.
The appointments have therefore generated considerable interest in Jeypore, particularly at a time when administrative preparedness and public awareness are expected to assume greater importance ahead of the forthcoming local-body elections.
