Bhubaneswar, Sept 25 [UDN}:The weather system affecting Odisha is expected to gradually weaken over the next 24 hours. However, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a Red Warning for Koraput, Nabarangpur and Kalahandi, forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall with isolated extremely heavy showers during the period.
According to IMD Regional Director Dr Manorama Mohanty, the deep depression has moved inland after crossing the coast and is likely to weaken into a depression before weakening further during the subsequent 24 hours.
The system was located near 80 km south-southeast of Rayagada and 90 km east-southeast of Koraput at 8:30 am on September 24. Light to moderate rain or thundershowers are expected at most places across Odisha, while several southern and western districts may continue to experience intense rainfall.
An Orange Warning has also been issued for Nuapada, Balangir, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Malkangiri, Gajapati and Ganjam, where heavy to very heavy rainfall is possible at isolated locations.
Koraput remains particularly vulnerable, with the IMD forecast indicating very heavy rainfall and thundersqualls with wind speeds of 50–60 kmph on September 24.
Authorities continue to maintain close watch over the situation, particularly in southern Odisha, amid the possibility of waterlogging, flash flooding and landslides in vulnerable areas.
