Puri, Sept. 26 (UDN): The sea turned turbulent along the Puri coast on Saturday as strong waves pounded the shoreline, reportedly washing away a temporary roadside shop and triggering concern among vendors, fishermen and residents living close to the beach.
The rough conditions were particularly noticeable near Mangala Muhana, where repeated waves struck the coast during high tide.
Sandbanks Eroded by Powerful Waves
A stretch of sandbank extending up to around one kilometre from Baliapanda was reportedly affected as continuous wave action eroded the shoreline.
Waves of around two to three feet were observed along the affected stretch, while sandbanks measuring nearly three feet in height collapsed at several locations under the impact of the sea.
The changing shoreline conditions raised concerns among people whose livelihoods are linked to the coast, particularly fishermen and roadside vendors.
Vendor’s Shop Swept Away
A temporary roadside shop was reportedly washed away by the strong waves, underlining the vulnerability of structures located close to the shoreline.
Fishermen near Mangala Muhana were also seen keeping a close watch on the sea as wave activity continued.
With the sea remaining rough, people have been advised to exercise caution and avoid venturing close to the water or unstable stretches of the shoreline.
Authorities are monitoring the coastal situation amid concerns that continued wave action could lead to further erosion and damage in vulnerable areas.
