Nabarangpur: Sept 28 [UDN}:An inspiring initiative by a group of young people in Nabarangpur brought smiles to the faces of differently-abled students and helped fulfil a long-cherished dream of travelling by train.
As part of the first anniversary celebration of ‘Our Citizen of Nabarangpur’, a special outing was organised for the differently-abled students and inmates of Asha Kiran Special School in Nabarangpur town. Many of the students had a strong desire to experience a train journey, but had never had the opportunity to do so. The youth group took the initiative to turn this dream into reality.
The students were taken to Jeypore Railway Station, from where they travelled by train to Koraput. For the students, the journey itself became a memorable experience filled with excitement, curiosity and happiness. The sight of the railway station, boarding the train and travelling together provided them with an experience that they are likely to cherish for a long time.
After reaching Koraput, the students were taken to Shabar Srikhetra, where they were given an opportunity to visit the sacred site. Arrangements were also made for them to have prasad there.
At the beginning of the programme, Nabarangpur BDO Dr Sunil Khora, Municipal Executive Officer Ashok Karn, District Social Security Officer Damayanti Nayak and Block Social Security Officer A. Dhanurjaya Rao, among others, were present.
The guests appreciated the initiative and said that programmes of this nature promote equality, humanity, compassion and social inclusion. Such efforts, they noted, can help create a more sensitive society where differently-abled persons are given equal opportunities to participate in social and recreational activities.
Asha Kiran Special School president Jagannath Behera, along with other school staff and members of the organising group, accompanied the students throughout the journey.
The unique initiative by the young members of Our Citizen of Nabarangpur has received widespread appreciation from intellectuals and members of the local community. The programme not only fulfilled the students’ dream of travelling by train but also conveyed a strong message that small acts of kindness and inclusion can create lasting happiness.
