Bhubaneswar: Oct 12 [UDN}:In a significant announcement ahead of the festive season, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has announced a waiver of ground rent for puja committees organising religious and festive celebrations across the state. The decision is aimed at providing financial relief to puja organisers and facilitating the smooth conduct of festive events.
The waiver of ground rent is expected to benefit puja committees that set up temporary pandals and organise community celebrations during the festive season. By exempting these committees from paying ground rent for the land used for their celebrations, the state government seeks to reduce the financial burden on organisers and help them manage festival-related arrangements more effectively.
The announcement comes at a time when preparations for Durga Puja and other festive celebrations are gathering momentum across Odisha, particularly in Bhubaneswar and other major towns and cities.
The decision reflects the state government’s move to extend support to puja committees and facilitate the organisation of traditional festivities. However, the detailed eligibility criteria, the duration of the waiver and the specific categories of puja committees covered would need to be confirmed through the official government announcement.
