Bhubaneswar, November 7, 2024: In response to the tragic deaths linked to the consumption of mango kernel in Kandhamal district, Odisha’s Chief Minister, Mohan Charan Majhi, has ordered an inquiry. Roopa Roshan Sahoo, the Revenue Divisional Commissioner (RDC) for the southern division, has begun the investigation by engaging with local communities and officials.
The RDC visited Mandipanka village in Daringbadi block, where the incident occurred, and spoke with the affected families, local panchayat members, civil society organizations, and the Kandhamal district collector. The investigation focuses on the deaths and serious health complications allegedly caused by consuming mango kernel-based food.
The RDC also reviewed records from the Public Distribution System (PDS) and Large Area Multipurpose Societies (LAMPS) to gather additional details. The Chief Minister’s office has requested a comprehensive report on the findings within seven days.
The probe follows the deaths of two women and the hospitalization of six others after consuming mango kernel gruel. Two of the sick individuals were later transferred to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack due to the severity of their condition.
