26th March 2025: SCB Medical College in Cuttack will soon introduce Odisha’s first Maternal and Neonatal Care Unit (MNCU) within its Women’s Health and Obstetrics Department. The 20-bed unit aims to provide specialized care for both mothers and newborns, enhancing treatment outcomes.
The MNCU will offer intensive care for newborns in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), improving their recovery chances. Experts suggest that joint treatment for mothers and infants leads to better health results for both.
This facility, the first of its kind in any government medical college in Odisha, will be expanded to other institutions if successful. The move is expected to ease the workload on existing maternity services at SCB, which handles 20 to 30 deliveries daily.
