15 fishermen missing at sea after leaving West Bengal coast, search efforts underway

Bhubaneswar, July 9 (UDN): Concern has intensified among families and the fishing community after 15 fishermen from Shankarpur, West Bengal, went missing in the deep sea for the past seven days during a fishing expedition.

According to reports, the fishermen departed from Shankarpur beach on July 2 aboard the trawler ‘Maa Kali’ for deep-sea fishing. However, communication with the vessel has remained unavailable since it left the shore, causing growing fears over the safety of those on board.

Family members and fellow fishermen have made repeated attempts to contact the crew, but the vessel remains unreachable. The prolonged absence has created anxiety among relatives, who are awaiting updates and hoping for the safe return of the fishermen.

Authorities are continuing efforts to trace the missing vessel and locate the fishermen as search operations progress. The incident has drawn attention to the challenges faced by coastal fishing communities, where safety at sea remains a major concern.
