Keonjhar, June 10: In a proud moment for Keonjhar, a monumental National Flag was unfurled at Jindal Steel & Power’s (JSP) Kasia Iron and Dolomite Mines on Monday. This marks the 175th installation by the Flag Foundation of India, which is dedicated to promoting the Indian Tricolour across the country.
The flagpole stands 72 feet tall, carrying a 16×24-foot national flag. The installation was formally inaugurated by Naveen Jindal, Member of Parliament and Chairman of JSP, who also leads the Flag Foundation. During the ceremony, Jindal described the Tricolour as a symbol of unity, pride, and the aspirations of every Indian.
He offered prayers for Odisha’s well-being and remembered the contributions of local freedom fighters, including Dharanidhar Bhuyan, Ratna Nayak, and Madan Patnaik. Jindal highlighted Keonjhar as the birthplace of Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, adding personal significance to the occasion.
Describing Odisha as his “karma bhoomi,” Jindal reaffirmed JSP’s long-standing commitment to regional development. He encouraged young girls from disadvantaged backgrounds to take advantage of the company’s Yashasvi Programme, which supports higher education for meritorious students.
Local social worker K.B. Palai appreciated JSP’s efforts in areas such as health care, education, sports, and rural development. Prashant Hota, JSP’s Group Head of CSR & Education, along with Pramod Kumar Patra, Head of Kasia Mines, also addressed the gathering and highlighted the mine’s role in generating local employment.
Since its founding in 2009, the Flag Foundation has successfully installed giant flags across major locations in India, with nine installations in Odisha alone.
