MalkangiriSept 23 [UDN}: An awareness meeting focusing on various problems and rights of the tribal community was organised by members of the tribal society at Tandapalli panchayat headquarters village under Malkangiri block.
Social worker and tribal rights activist Lalit Narayan Madkami was invited to attend the meeting and listen to the issues faced by the villagers. The meeting was attended by Vijay Kumar Sodi, district president of the Fifth Schedule Youth Group; Deb Majkami, president of the Kalimela 24-Gram Sabha; Ganga Madkami, president of the Tandapalli Forest Land Committee; along with the Sarpanch, village head, priest, ward members and a large number of villagers.
During the meeting, villagers raised several issues relating to forest land rights and pattas, community land titles, basic civic facilities, education and problems concerning schools. They placed their concerns before the tribal rights activist and discussed the difficulties they face in accessing various rights and public services.
Detailed discussions were held on ways to draw the attention of the district administration towards these problems and seek appropriate solutions. Lalit Narayan Madkami said that the issues raised by the villagers would be collected and submitted in writing to the district administration so that the concerned authorities could take necessary steps.
The meeting also included discussions on the Bill-2026, as mentioned by the organisers, as well as the role, powers and rights of the Gram Sabha, particularly in the context of tribal communities and local governance.
At the conclusion of the meeting, Lalit Narayan Madkami thanked the villagers for inviting him and openly sharing their concerns. He said he would continue to stand with the people on issues concerning their dignity, rights and land, while urging the community to maintain faith in democracy, the Constitution and the administrative system and pursue their demands through democratic and constitutional means.
