The blaze spread through patches of dry vegetation before being reported to the Fire Services Department. Firefighters promptly reached the site and brought the fire under control, preventing it from spreading deeper into the sanctuary. Authorities confirmed that the situation is now under control.
The exact cause of the fire has not yet been determined. Forest and fire officials are expected to carry out a detailed inspection of the affected area to assess the extent of damage and identify the source of ignition.
Preliminary visuals from the site showed flames rapidly spreading across dry forest patches, with thick smoke visible from a distance. While the immediate spread has been contained, officials are continuing to monitor the area to prevent any re-ignition.
Balukhand Wildlife Sanctuary, particularly the Talabania region, serves as an important habitat and grazing ground for deer and other wildlife species. The area frequently witnesses animal movement in search of food and water, especially during seasonal changes.
The incident has raised concern among local residents and wildlife observers regarding the safety of the sanctuary’s ecosystem. However, forest officials have confirmed that there is currently no report of any wildlife casualties.
Authorities noted that post-fire assessment work is underway to evaluate ecological damage and ensure necessary restoration measures are initiated if required. Preventive monitoring has also been intensified in surrounding forest areas.
Officials have reiterated the importance of vigilance during dry conditions, when forest areas become more vulnerable to accidental or human-induced fires.
The Forest Department continues to closely monitor the situation and has assured that further updates will be provided as the investigation progresses.
