Bhubaneswar,Apr22(BNP): In a significant move to address the growing demand for affordable urban housing, the Odisha government is actively implementing an ambitious housing plan in the capital city, adopting a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model inspired by the Maharashtra framework.
Under the new approach, the government is shifting from the traditional practice of direct land allocation to slum residents to the development of constructed low-cost flats. The initiative is aimed at ensuring better living conditions while efficiently managing rising real estate costs.
Officials stated that the PPP-based model will leverage private sector participation to accelerate construction, ensure quality infrastructure, and enable timely delivery of housing units. The project is expected to benefit economically weaker sections and low-income groups by providing them with access to affordable and well-planned residential facilities.
The move underscores the state government’s commitment to inclusive urban development and sustainable housing solutions, while addressing the challenges posed by rapid urbanization and increasing land prices.
