Birthday Celebrated Through Service: Social Worker Chhabi Das Adopts Responsibility for Supporting Differently-Abled Lakshmi’s Future

Malkangiri, June 17: Social worker Chhabi Das from Malkangiri town has set a remarkable example of humanity and compassion. Instead of celebrating his 51st birthday with feasts, parties, or cake-cutting, he chose to take responsibility for shaping the future of a helpless girl student.

Lakshmi, daughter of Narayan Khemudu from Bandhaguda village under Sindhimala Panchayat of Malkangiri Sadar Block, had earlier come into the spotlight after appearing for her Class 10 Board Examination by writing with her feet. However, due to her family’s poor financial condition, her future education had become uncertain.

After learning about her situation, Chhabi Das announced before the media that he would adopt Lakshmi as his foster daughter and take full responsibility for her education, upbringing, and all necessary support. On the occasion of his 51st birthday, he also provided her with educational materials.

This generous gesture by Chhabi Das has not only brought new hope into the life of a disadvantaged girl but has also sent a powerful message of humanity and social responsibility to society.
Similarly, after receiving information from Binash Mishra, founder of AOM Gurukul, Das visited Rauliguda village under Tamasa Panchayat in Malkangiri Block on his birthday. There, he met Irma Madkami, a differently-abled person, and presented him with a wheelchair as a birthday gift.

Irma Madkami revealed that he still does not possess an Aadhaar card, due to which he has been deprived of receiving disability pension benefits. Chhabi Das’s humanitarian efforts have been widely appreciated by local residents, intellectuals, and people across the district.
