Bhubaneswar, June 11 (UDN): The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday accused the previous Biju Janata Dal (BJD) government of deliberately concealing two sensitive inquiry reports related to the murder of Swami Lakshmanananda Saraswati and the devastating SUM Hospital fire incident.
Addressing a press conference in Bhubaneswar, Odisha BJP General Secretary Biranchi Tripathy alleged that while official files from the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) were transferred to the Home Department after the change of government, the inquiry reports on the Swami Lakshmanananda murder case and the SUM Hospital fire failed to reach the department.
Tripathy termed the disappearance of the files a “deep conspiracy” and questioned how such crucial documents could go missing. He claimed that the inquiry report into the killing of Swami Lakshmanananda Saraswati, reportedly running into thousands of pages, had been formally submitted years ago and could not have vanished without deliberate intervention.
The BJP leader further alleged that the matter was brought to the notice of former Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik through official correspondence in 2025, but no satisfactory response was received. He asserted that the disappearance of the files raises serious questions about transparency and accountability during the previous regime.
According to the BJP, an FIR has already been registered regarding the missing files and a police investigation is underway. The party has demanded a thorough probe to uncover the circumstances surrounding the disappearance of the reports.

Meanwhile, the BJD and Congress have rejected the BJP’s allegations and questioned why the issue surfaced nearly two years after the BJP assumed power in the state. Leaders of both parties have sought an explanation from the government regarding the security and handling of official records.
