Bhubaneswar, Jan 16: The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has launched a new WhatsApp chatbot to improve accessibility and transparency in municipal services. Developed in collaboration with IndusInd Bank and PeLocal Fintech Private Limited, the initiative was officially launched with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).

The chatbot will enable residents to easily access various services, such as property tax payments, trade licenses, birth and death certificates, and grievance redressal, simplifying the process and making these services more user-friendly.

Speaking at the MoU signing ceremony, BMC Mayor Sulochana Das emphasized the role of technology in enhancing civic administration. “BMC is committed to improving facilities for citizens through innovative tech solutions,” she said.

Alongside the chatbot, BMC has also introduced a Market and Vending Zone Rental Collection App, developed in partnership with IndusInd Bank and EmerTech RnD Solutions Private Limited. This app is designed to streamline the rental collection process, ensuring greater efficiency and transparency in the management of municipal markets and vending zones.

In its 27th General Council meeting, BMC announced the formation of seven enforcement squads tasked with managing street vending, removing encroachments, enforcing trade licenses, and ensuring compliance with the Odisha Development Authorities (ODA) Act.

Mayor Das also urged corporators to identify land for resettling vendors displaced during the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas. Additionally, BMC plans to relocate illegal roadside stalls to designated vending zones or newly planned neighborhood markets, aiming to balance urban order with livelihood needs and ensure the proper use of public spaces.
