Malkangiri, Aug 1 (UDN): Several Border Security Force (BSF) personnel have been stranded after floodwaters entered their camp at Marebeda in the Abujhmad region of Narayanpur district, Chhattisgarh, following incessant rainfall and a sharp rise in the water level of the Godavari River.
According to reports, continuous heavy rain triggered severe flooding in the region, leaving the BSF camp surrounded by overflowing water. As the floodwaters rapidly inundated the premises, the stranded personnel were forced to move to rooftops and climb trees to escape the rising water.
Sources said the jawans have remained marooned for several hours, facing shortages of food and safe drinking water as rescue efforts were yet to reach the remote location till the latest reports.
The worsening flood situation has disrupted access to the camp, making rescue operations challenging. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation as water levels in the Godavari River continue to remain above the danger mark, triggering widespread flooding in several parts of Chhattisgarh.
The incident highlights the difficulties faced by security forces deployed in remote Maoist-affected areas, where extreme weather and damaged connectivity can significantly hamper relief and evacuation efforts.
Officials are expected to launch rescue operations as soon as weather and ground conditions permit, while efforts are underway to establish contact with the stranded personnel and assess their immediate requirements.
