Cuttack, June 24 (UDN): The Choudwar Circle Jail administration on Tuesday announced that it will lodge a formal complaint with Choudwar Police against released gangster Litua Behera and the driver of a private Mahindra Thar SUV following a security breach inside the prison premises.
The decision comes in the wake of a controversy triggered by a viral social media video showing the luxury vehicle entering the jail campus to receive Behera after his release on bail. The footage, widely circulated online, sparked serious concerns over security protocols within the correctional facility.
Addressing a joint press conference at the jail premises, Choudwar Circle Jail Senior Superintendent Sujit Kumar Raula and Jail DIG Anusaya Jena confirmed that legal action would be initiated against those involved, including the vehicle owner, for violating prison security norms.
According to prison officials, entry into the correctional facility is strictly restricted to authorised vehicles belonging to jail authorities, police, courts and other designated government agencies. The unauthorised entry of a private vehicle has raised questions about possible lapses in security screening and adherence to established protocols.
Officials attributed the incident largely to an acute shortage of staff within the prison, which allegedly contributed to the security lapse. However, the prison directorate has already initiated internal disciplinary proceedings against personnel posted at the entry gates at the time of the incident.
Jail DIG Anusaya Jena said explanations have been sought from the gatekeeper and the sentry on duty, and their responses have been forwarded to senior authorities for further action.
Senior Superintendent Sujit Kumar Raula stated that the inquiry into the incident is still underway and that appropriate measures will be taken based on the findings of the investigation.
The episode has once again brought prison security arrangements under scrutiny, with authorities assuring that steps will be taken to prevent recurrence of such incidents in future.
