New Delhi, Nov 13: Chief Justice of India (CJI) Sanjiv Khanna has announced new guidelines for urgent case listings, stating that no oral submissions will be allowed. Lawyers must now submit requests for urgent hearings through email or written letters, outlining the reasons for urgency.
This change is part of CJI Khanna’s wider efforts to reform the judicial system, aiming to make it more accessible and efficient. In his first statement as CJI, he emphasized the judiciary’s role in ensuring equal justice for all citizens, regardless of their status or wealth.
Khanna also identified key challenges, including reducing case backlogs, making legal proceedings more affordable, and simplifying complex legal processes. He expressed his commitment to improving criminal case management, promoting mediation, and ensuring that judgments are more understandable for the public.
