Coal-Laden Lorry Plunges 30 Feet Near Bridge in Odisha’s Angul, Driver Critically Injured

Angul, Aug. 5 (UDN): A coal-laden lorry met with a serious accident after reportedly losing control and plunging nearly 30 feet off the road near Manetri Bridge in Athmallik block of Odisha’s Angul district on Wednesday morning. The driver sustained critical injuries in the mishap.

According to preliminary reports, the vehicle was returning towards Banarpal after unloading coal at Kiagata when the driver allegedly lost control near the bridge, causing the lorry to veer off the road and crash into a lower area.

The impact left the vehicle badly mangled, trapping the driver inside the cabin. Local residents rushed to the accident site and carried out a rescue operation before pulling the injured driver from the wreckage.

The driver, who suffered serious injuries, was immediately shifted to the Athmallik Community Health Centre for emergency treatment. His identity had not been officially confirmed at the time of filing this report.

On receiving information about the incident, Athmallik police reached the spot, secured the area and initiated an investigation to ascertain the exact cause of the accident.
