Debrigarh’s National Park Dream Nears Reality, Says Forest Minister

Bhubaneswar, July 14 (UDN): Odisha’s renowned Debrigarh Wildlife Sanctuary in Sambalpur district may soon receive the status of a National Park, marking a significant development for wildlife conservation and eco-tourism in the state.

The state Forest and Environment Minister has indicated that the proposal to accord National Park status to Debrigarh is under consideration, and the sanctuary could become Odisha’s third National Park after Similipal and Bhitarkanika if the process is completed successfully.

Located near the Hirakud reservoir, Debrigarh is known for its rich biodiversity, scenic landscapes, and diverse wildlife. The upgrade in status is expected to strengthen conservation efforts, improve habitat protection, and boost tourism opportunities in the region.

Officials believe that the National Park recognition will bring greater attention to the sanctuary and help enhance wildlife management, infrastructure development, and visitor facilities.

The proposed move is being seen as an important step towards preserving Odisha’s natural heritage and promoting sustainable eco-tourism in the state.
