Malkangiri, Nov 25: The District Information and Public Relations Department organized a district-level celebration of Martyr Laxman Nayak’s birth anniversary at the Women’s Higher Secondary School.
On this occasion, District Collector Vedabar Pradhan attended as the chief guest, offering floral tributes and paying homage to the martyr, honoring his contribution to the tribal communities of Odisha. He highlighted that the sacrifices of freedom fighters like Laxman Nayak, who overcame all obstacles to assert dignity and self-respect, remain an enduring example of patriotism and national pride. The District Collector encouraged students to be inspired by Laxman Nayak’s ideals, to honor him daily with devotion and respect.
District Information and Public Relations Officer Pramila Majhi welcomed everyone and coordinated the program. The program was organized under the supervision of school principal Dushmant Jena, who emphasized that Laxman Nayak was not only a freedom fighter but also a social reformer. Laxman Nayak was born on 22nd November 1899 in Tentuligumma, Koraput district. He raised his voice against social evils like female infanticide, child marriage, caste discrimination, and the practice of sacrifice.
Teachers Indurekha Pattnayak and Randhakar Das also spoke about Laxman Nayak’s life and legacy. Harekrishna Kirtania assisted in organizing the event. Teachers, students, and other staff from the school actively participated in the program.
