Nabarangpur,Sept 23 [UDN}: District Collector Dr. Maheswar Swain Reviews Preparedness; Leave of District, Block and Field-Level Officials Cancelled, Officials Directed to Remain at Headquarters
All Educational Institutions in Nabarangpur District to Remain Closed for Two Days in View of Student Safety
Nabarangpur, September 22, 2026: In view of the low-pressure area formed over the east-central and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal and the possibility of adverse weather conditions over the coming days, the Nabarangpur district administration has stepped up preparedness and response measures.
District Collector Dr. Maheswar Swain reviewed the district’s preparedness through a virtual meeting with all district-level officers, tehsildars and Block Development Officers (BDOs). The review focused on ensuring that all departments remain fully prepared to respond to heavy rainfall and other weather-related emergencies.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast cited by the district administration, an Orange Warning has been issued for September 23, 2026, while Red Warnings have been issued for September 24 and 25. In view of the forecast, the Collector reviewed the preparedness measures being undertaken at the field level.
As part of the emergency preparedness arrangements, the leave of all district-level officers, tehsildars and BDOs has been cancelled. They have been directed to remain alert and present at their respective headquarters and not to leave their headquarters without prior permission from the competent authority.
The Collector also directed BDOs to review the availability of essential food supplies at the panchayat and block levels. Adequate stocks of essential commodities such as flattened rice (chuda) and rice are to be maintained so that there is no shortage of food or other necessities during any emergency situation.
Municipal authorities have been instructed to undertake de-silting of drains to ensure smooth drainage of rainwater and minimise the possibility of waterlogging and flash-flood-like situations. Executive officers of the concerned urban local bodies have been asked to take necessary action without delay.
The administration has also strengthened arrangements to deal with road blockages caused by falling trees or heavy rainfall. Fire service personnel have been instructed to remain on alert and take immediate action to clear obstructions and restore normal traffic movement at the earliest.
The Executive Engineer of Tata Power has been directed to keep adequate manpower and necessary equipment ready for the immediate restoration of electricity supply in case of disruption caused by the adverse weather.
Special attention has also been given to the Indravati barrage area. Under the supervision of local BDOs and tehsildars, awareness activities are being carried out among fishermen and local residents, advising them not to venture into the river in country boats for fishing or any other activity during the prevailing adverse weather conditions.
Educational Institutions to Remain Closed
Keeping the safety of students in mind, the district administration has ordered the closure of all educational institutions in Nabarangpur district on September 23 and 24, following completion of the ongoing examinations and as per the prescribed procedure.
The administration has also put district- and block-level control rooms on 24-hour operational duty. These control rooms will receive information from the public regarding emergencies, facilitate immediate response and coordinate the provision of necessary assistance.
The district administration has appealed to people to remain alert and closely follow official advisories and information issued by the administration and concerned departments. Citizens have also been urged to cooperate with the administration during the period of adverse weather and take necessary precautions for their safety.
