
4th April 2025: Dr. Purnam Gupta, hailing from Betanati in Mayurbhanj district, Odisha, has been appointed as the Deputy Governor of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). She takes over from Michael Debabrata Patra, the former Deputy Governor. Dr. Gupta’s tenure will last for three years.
Prior to her new role, Dr. Gupta was a member of the Prime Minister’s Economic Advisory Council, where she contributed significantly to policy discussions.
Dr. Gupta, whose roots lie in Betanati, is married to Dipak Mishra, a renowned economist and Director at the Indian Council for Research on International Economic Relations (ICRIER). Her appointment as Deputy Governor highlights the growing influence of Odisha in the nation’s economic framework.
