Bhanjanagar, April 23: On the auspicious occasion of Akshaya Tritiya, the District-Level Farmers’ Day was celebrated at the Krishi Vigyan Kendra Bhanjanagar, Benakunda.
Minister for Commerce & Transport, Steel and Mines Bibhuti Bhushan Jena attended as the chief guest. He began the by worshipping Mother Earth and symbolically ploughing the land, marking the start of Akhi Muthi Anukula (traditional sowing ritual). Other dignitaries also encouraged farmers to adopt better agricultural practices.
On this occasion, financial assistance under the CM Kisan Scheme for Kharif 2026 was distributed through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT). A total of ₹48.30 crore was directly transferred to the bank accounts of 2,41,531 farmers in Ganjam district. This included 2,35,932 small and marginal farmers and 5,599 landless agricultural families, each receiving ₹2,000.
Among others present were local MLA Pradyumna Kumar Nayak, Sorada MLA Nilamani Bisoyi, District Collector Keerthi Vasan V, Sub-Collector Uma Shankar Behera, SDC Chairman Nilamadhab Patra, Chief District Agriculture Officer Dr. Ajay Kumar Kar, along with the BDO, Tehsildar, and other district-level officials.
Speakers praised farmers and urged them to adopt modern agricultural technologies. Minister Jena stated that farmers are the backbone of Odisha’s economy and assured continued government support.
An awareness vehicle was also flagged off to educate farmers about proper fertilizer use and farmer registration, which will travel across rural areas.
The program not only encouraged farmers but also enhanced awareness about the initiatives of the Krishi Vigyan Kendra. The event was conducted by Dr. Ajay Kumar Kar and Assistant Agriculture Officer Divya Hena, while District Agriculture Officer Byomakesh Mishra delivered the vote of thanks.
