Bhubaneswar, July 30 (UDN): The Odisha government has ordered the closure of schools and Anganwadi centres in four districts on Thursday as heavy rainfall and the prevailing flood situation continue to disrupt normal life in several parts of the state.
According to district administrations, all government and private schools, along with Anganwadi centres, will remain closed in Bhadrak, Jajpur, Nabarangpur and Kalahandi as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of children.
The decision comes amid persistent rainfall that has caused widespread waterlogging in many areas, while overflowing rivers and floodwaters have submerged roads and disrupted transportation at several locations.
Officials said the temporary closure has been ordered to prevent students and staff from travelling through waterlogged or flood-affected areas until the situation improves.
Parents have been advised to keep children indoors and avoid unnecessary travel, while residents of low-lying and flood-prone areas have been urged to remain vigilant and strictly follow instructions issued by the local administration.
Authorities are closely monitoring the weather and flood situation and will review the reopening of educational institutions based on ground conditions and safety assessments in the affected districts.
