Nabarangpur, April 23: On the auspicious occasion of Akshaya Tritiya, a district-level Farmers’ Mega Celebration was held today at 9:00 AM on the roadside land near the CRPF camp at Janaki Nagar.
Minister Nityananda Gond attended the event as the chief guest, while Nabarangpur MLA Gouri Shankar Majhi joined as the guest of honour. After performing rituals, the minister initiated the traditional Akhi Muthi Anukula (symbolic sowing ceremony). The minister and the MLA sowed paddy seeds in the field, and ploughing was also carried out with the help of bullocks. Additionally, an Agriculture Awareness Rath was flagged off on the occasion.
The event was attended by Chief District Agriculture Officer Sudhir Ranjan Behera, Watershed Mission Project Director Chintamani Behera, Deputy Director of Horticulture Subrata Mohanty, senior agricultural scientist of Krishi Vigyan Kendra Shashank Lenka, DIPRO Manoj Behera, along with officials and staff from the Agriculture Department of Nabarangpur and Umerkote, farmers, and media representatives.
Meanwhile, at the Mission Shakti conference hall in Nabarangpur, a live telecast of the Chief Minister’s program was arranged from the Central Rice Research Institute, Cuttack. During this program, financial assistance of ₹2,000 was distributed to each farmer under the CM Kisan Scheme.
On this occasion, Minister Nityananda Gond extended his greetings to the farmers. District Collector Dr. Maheshwar Swain advised farmers to diversify crops instead of relying only on paddy and maize cultivation and to avoid excessive use of chemical fertilizers.
More than 100 farmers from various blocks attended the event and watched the live telecast of the Chief Minister’s program.
